Newsletter No 23

9th February, 2008

Dear Parent/Carer,

School Council

Last week the school council developed a set of guidelines they would use on the playground at lunchtimes. These will be discussed with both the children and SMSA’s (dinner ladies) and should help to make our lunch times and break times better for everyone.

Book Week

A reminder that on Thursday afternoon, (February 12th) at 2.30pm, you are invited to an exhibition of the books written by the children during book week.  Children are also invited to dress up as a book character that day.  It would be good to see as many children as possible enjoying themselves and taking part.

Art Exhibition

During our Book Week the whole school will be producing a piece of art work which will be framed, glazed and mounted.  An exhibition of this art work will take place during the afternoon and evening of March 4th (our Parents’ Evening).  More details to follow after the holiday.

Lunch Menu

There will be a change to the lunchtime menu on Thursday 12th February. Instead of chicken pie it will be fish and chips. This change is just for this week and the normal menu will resume again after the holiday.

ABTA

There are still some places left for the half term holiday club.  If you are interested please come to the school office to collect a form or call Rob Cox on 07932 332576.

3EM Assembly

3EM assembly has been rescheduled to Tuesday 10th Feb. There will be two performances for parents to watch. One will start at 2.30pm for years 5 & 6 and the second performance will start at 2.55pm for years 3 & 4. Please come along, we would love to see you.

Stages

Stages at the Colston Hall was cancelled over the weekend due to adverse weather conditions. It has been rescheduled for March. Mrs May will inform all the Year 6’s involved as soon as she receives more information.

Thursday 5th February

Some parents could not understand why we were open on Thursday.  The reason for this was that all the staff were in school and so there was no reason for closure.  I have spoken with Ms Slatcher who had intended to open as normal but because some staff were unable to get to work she had no choice but to close. The decision was not made until after 8.00am.  She did try contacting me but was unable to get through as the network was busy.  We have agreed if any adverse weather conditions re-occur we will contact each other early in the morning and make a joint decision.  Please check the BBC Bristol website to see if the schools are closed if adverse weather occurs.

Well done to all the children and staff who managed to come to school on Thursday! All the children spent time playing in the snow with their teachers and doing a creative curriculum.

Year 3 Swimming

As the coaches were unable to transport children to the swimming baths last Thursday a credit will be given to those parents who have already paid.

Inset Day

We break up on Thursday 12th February as teachers have a training day.

Netball Tournament

On the 3rd February, the netball team played in a high five netball tournament against four other teams from Bristol.  We won three matches and drew one.  We came first overall and go to a county final against 15 other teams.  Well done everyone and well done to Jacob Burt who was man of the match!
